Camila Cañeque

1984–2024

Beautiful Camila.

I met Camila in New York, where friends are your everything. We quit smoking together. A couple of times. She was a philosopher and a performance artist who made work about stillness, doing nothing, and the beauty of what is left unfinished, and she looked at everything with extreme focus. Including me. I can still hear her voice saying "My love! My Noa!", with so much drama and presence. Her presence was so full that it's still here.

Camila died in February 2024, at 39, of unexplained causes. She was found lying in her bed. She had just finished La última frase (The Last Sentence), a book about the last sentences of texts. It was published after her death.

This page is a place to remember her.
